Cyprus, the crossroads of Western and Eastern civilisations, is the 3rd largest island in the Mediterranean. The country lies in the right hand corner of the Mediterranean Sea close to Europe, Asia and Africa. So close in fact, it often claims to be a stepping stone to all 3 continents.
The island of Aphrodite (as Cyprus is often called) is rather small. It extends from east to west by 230 km and from north to south by 96 km. The island can be toured, by car or by bus, within a day and has an excellent road network. Travelling around the island, visitors can take in the breathtaking beauty of the country often paralleled with a paradise on Earth. It was not by chance that Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, chose Cyprus as her birthplace. As ancient myths told, it was she who appeared from the sea waves just off the coast of Cyprus.
Cyprus is an island of beauty and of contrasts. Cool pine-clad mountains, golden sandy beaches, 648km of coastline, crusader castles, ancient vineyards, citrus orchards, tranquil villages and cosmopolitan towns blend to create a idyllic island, all enhanced by a warm Mediterranean climate that boasts an average of 340 days of sunshine a year!
