Pamporovo - Dream Lake

Located in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, Pamporovo is the southernmost ski resort in Europe with skiing traditions dating back to 1933. The region boasts a moderate Mediterranean climate, benefiting from year round tourism. The resort, the sunniest mountain resort in Bulgaria, is home to a sea of dark green hills during the summer and in winter a blanket of white snow. The high mountain peaks of Rhodope protect the slopes from wind thus maintaining excellent ski conditions throughout the season in Pamporovo, which stretches from December until May. The unique climate and topography are further enhanced by the unusually high number of sunny days that the area benefits from during the winter season, an average of 120. Free from Avalanches and with little variance in the daily temperatures, the resort is a haven for skiers and snowboarders alike. The resort boasts 25km of long-distance runs, 18km of Alpine ski runs of varying difficulty and a number of ski lifts with a total capacity for 8,500 skiers per hour.

In the summer the region is transformed to an oasis of natural beauty. Dream Lake is home to one of the seven Smolyan lakes otherwise known as 'The Emerald Eyes' of the Rhodopes. Stretching as far as the eye can see is a scene of rolling mountains, awesome cliffs and glistening lakes. The area is home to a network of caves, fortresses and temples.
